So part 1 of my question is about Duty on buying coins I guess from the states mostly but also abroad. I did some searching and I find it difficult to find a straight answer most of the stuff I found with pre 2020 so not sure if it's sill accurate. Google seemed to give me stuff specific importing from Peru.lol

So anyway, last I read is if we request them to put Numismatic Interest on it, it should be fine. Is that still accurate?

Second part was selling on ebay. I understand buyers are heavily protected are there any fool proof options for shipping as a seller that keeps the seller protected or is just a gamble?

As always, thanks for the help.

If it arrives via canada post, you probably won't pay anything, maybe for large lots, but usually I don't. If ups/fedex you will likely pay normal duty.

Assuming the items are subject to duty. It all depends on the item code. If the seller puts the item as a coin group not subject to duty, you might get lucky.

No duty on coins from US.
GST/HST/PST is payable though, as well as a processing fee.
Low value packages are rarely inspected and pass without fees or taxes.
Never ever use Fedex or UPS, their broker fees are atrocious.
Only use USPS/Canada Post.

Short answer: It's a gamble.
Long answer: If you accurately describe your items, and send what you describe in your listing, you should have few problems. I have sold hundreds of coins on ebay and have not had one return request.

If you are talking specifically about shipping protection, if you send with tracking, it is rare for the USPS to lose such items. It happens, but not often. When it does, the seller is responsible to the buyer.

Yeah, I get that with the seller being responsible. But what I'm trying to find out is if there is a way we can protect ourselves. I've hear horror stories. I want to sell some stuff that I don't mind paying a bit extra for tracking, signature and or insurance. I just was hoping someone with experience can spell out for me what the safest was is to sell maybe a bit more expensive items with no risk of losing out on the item and or value of the item.

Is there a way with ebay? If not is there another option that has better secure transactions?
