Do you want a heavy pocket full of change or a lighter wallet full of paper?

The best way to see more of them "out there" is to use them in commerce. Spend them when you shop. There is a CCF category documenting spending of dollar coins; keep dollar coins circulating.

Because they do not circulate. Get rid of the dollar bill and watch them become the prom queen.

I too enjoy the Sacagawea and Native American dollar series. Probably one of the prettiest modern coin designs. Plus, unlike the other dollar series, they only change the design annually.

Pure speculation, but it could be that they were overshadowed by Presidential dollars and Innovation dollars. I'm sure the edge lettering doesn't help them, although it plagues all modern dollar series.

I just meant with collectors. I rarely ever see them mentioned. In fact, when I was at my local coin dealer recently, they barely had any Sacagawea dollars. They had more Presidential dollars.

Yeah, like Jbuck said, neither. I don't generally carry cash on me. And as much as I personally like coins, I don't really particularly like having coins in my pocket lol

I use my debit card generally.

"Cheerios Sacagawea dollars" are the most "famous" of them all, and they are rare.
Popular because they can auction for up to $20,000.

Because of the different designs people probably thought that they were commemorative coins.

I remember giving someone three Millard Fillmore dollar coins and the guy asked me "are these play money?"

Agree. The Presidential dollar coins do look like play money. Sadly, they don't come with a chocolate core...

The core is solid copper.

I received my first SBA in change a few weeks ago.
Did not realize it until I got home, but the clerk mistook it for a quarter.
And it was probably spent as such.

Why aren't they more popular? Well for me personally here are my reasons.

1. Edge lettering. I want the date and mintmark viewable on the obverse or reverse.

2. I don't like having multiple designs each year. I miss the days of a lasting design for decades. This really got cumbersome with quarters and just makes the annual sets too big.

Just my Two Cents here... :P

Yea edge lettering sounds cool until it actually goes into effect, Having multiple designs a year for a circulating coin is beyond too much
