Personally not a fan of having to buy 'circulation' coins because they don't circulate. Would rather they just end it. I could see current circulation coins lasting for quite a few years.
All the modern ones I've been doing from change/crh. Though I did just buy all the memorial Pennies but one because those really look bad after a few years in circulation
You could probably just stop producing cents and leave the current ones in circulation and you'd be fine. By time they started to disappear naturally it wouldn't even matter anymore
Quote: Current transactions are no where near 90% plastic!! As for me in a very rural area probably 70% of transactions are still in cash and we get a discount for using it.
As far as the Cent goes it really does need to go away!!
After Covid digital transaction hit something like 75%. There is a pushback tho now with businesses charging the consumer the transaction fee
Quote: to be honest, I never really looked at the distance of the MM to the date on these dollar coins - I just look to determine the mint..
Yea, I was doing dollars not long ago to fill in my sba, presidential, and Sacagawea and came across it, I've never saw the mint right up against the date before, there is always a decent amount of space
Just replace the penny with a 2 cent piece for like 10 years and leave current Pennys in circulation. More and more transactions are digital and by time Pennys start to dwindle in number people would have fully moved on
You guys might be underestimating how many use cash a bit, where I work I can end up with 2 or 3 hundred dollar bills with 2 or 3 50 dollar bills at the end of my shift
Yea I just found my first and it's a kinda odd looking coin, tbh I'm not a fan of any of the 2010 onwards designs, they are all too busy. Wish they would just make consistent yearly coins again instead of trying to replicate the state quarters.
