Thank you!

Okay, so here are all the finds I have gotten from my work for Lincoln cents. Not too bad considering a portion of my work consists of a hospital cafeteria. Lol.

Thanks!

Here's another I found today at my work. Not as exciting as finding a 1919, but it'll do.

Finding a key date would be cool. Lol.

Not from a coin roll, but from the spare change cup at the cashier's station at my work!

1919 plain - pretty cool!

Most people don't even know what you're talking about. When I go to into my Credit Union for rolls of nickels, they mistakenly usually think I am asking about the actual empty paper rolls themselves. I usually have to clarify.

Awesome find. Yes, even though I haven't found that many of them, any war nickels I've found in circulation are very worn.

Very nice. I recently received my 1963 proof that I ordered recently from Ebay. Looks alright. Little bit more toned than I would like. Though I opted to use a Dansco album with proofs and fill in the Philadelphia spots with proofs, at least the earlier proofs, I may at some point look into a Dansco blank nickel album. This way, I can customize my own collection of nickels, and I can add all proofs that I collect, in whatever order I wish, as well as both the business strike coins of 1965, 1966 and 1967 and the SMS coins.

I mean, I both hate and love the fact that the Dansco albums include the "proof only," issues. One for love because I don't have to worry about the really older expensive proofs in a prelabeled slot, and two for hate because if you want to collect some of the older proofs, without using a blank page, you basically have to decide between the business strike and proof. Perhaps I want both. Lol.

Because they do not circulate. Get rid of the dollar bill and watch them become the prom queen.

I just meant with collectors. I rarely ever see them mentioned. In fact, when I was at my local coin dealer recently, they barely had any Sacagawea dollars. They had more presidential dollars.

Yeah, like Jbuck said, neither. I don't generally carry cash on me. And as much as I personally like coins, I don't really particularly like having coins in my pocket lol

I use my debit card generally.

Not sure why. I think they're cool too.

We have a section on them here...

Thank you.

That is a great question.
I love these little dollar coins - especially when they started with the Native American theme on them.

Same. I remember when they came out in 2000 and seeing them. They never caught on. Then again, most dollar coins in the US don't....

I quite like SBA dollars, Sacagawea/Native American dollars. The idea of the "Presidential dollar," was pretty cool in theory, but the coins themselves IMO were pretty ugly and undesirable.
I have yet to see any Innovation dollars in person, whether a find in circulation or at a coin dealer.

Personally, out of all the designs for coins, I'd have to argue that the SBA dollar is probably my favorite, even if it is a somewhat "ugly" image used for her depiction.

So I'm curious... These are pretty nice coins, especially the regular Sacagawea coins. I just bought a couple recently and think I might try to put together a little set of them. Personally, I like small dollar coins in general.

Why aren't these more popular?

Amazing! Great set! I am super jealous! Fellow Jefferson nickel lover here! Completed my set awhile back from circulated coins that initially started from a BU only set.

Some of these must have cost a pretty penny! I can only imagine how much it cost for that 39 D!

I found this today in change at my work. I was quite pleasantly surprised.

Not exactly from a bank roll, but still pocket change essentially.

You should do it. The 32+ coin set is nice. Just saying.

I probably will at some point.
Either that or I will collect all clad coins, business strike and proof. I can easily add that into my 2x2 stock album.

I'd sort of also like to possibly get into Sacagawea dollars and SBA dollars.

Nothing wrong with that. I started out collecting from change. Then in 1980 I started getting proof sets every year. I was content to keep them that way until I realized some of my Dansco albums had proof holes that needed filling

I've started up a new Dansco album, but this time with proofs, just for something different.
I am working on various different sets, one of them being this album. I'm also working on my own Buffalo nickel set, and I am contemplating starting a Liberty nickel set. I have made slow progress as well on the Kennedy half dollar business strike set, but it is a nice series. For whatever coin sets that have some really expensive key date coins, which would amount to empty holes in a predetermined set album, I am using the Dansco 2x2 coin album. I was also going to get into the Ike dollars with the Dansco album I got for Christmas, but I really didn't care for how small it was. A tiny album filled with two pages hardly seems worth it IMO. I may or may not try a "proof," album from them for Ikes. Perhaps I will add them into my collection of coin 2x2's. I enjoy honestly the ability to basically make my own set or collection, without worrying about having to purchase expensive coins. It's been nice being able to collect whatever Buffalo nickels I want, without having to worry about collecting expensive varieties or the "three legged buffalo," coins.

All the modern ones I've been doing from change/crh. Though I did just buy all the memorial Pennies but one because those really look bad after a few years in circulation

Interesting. I'd assume the silver composition would demand more of a premium?

Geez, no wonder why the 1938 proof is so expensive. I think the mintage I read was 19,000-something? That's incredibly low.

1942-P is the tough one. It is the only War Nickel proof.

Is the 1942-P proof silver?

To me, it's hard to tell between a satin finish proof and an uncirculated coin. In the 1970s, they started using frosted finish on the proof coins which makes them really stick out.

The proof Jefferson's from 1968, 1969 and 1970 are a bit different than the proof only issues going from 1971 and later. I really like the look of these, though. Before that, the proofs, minted in Philadelphia, also have a different look. I wouldn't say they are hard to distinguish, though. They definitely aren't as mirrored and aren't the kind of "frosted," proofs. I like them though regardless.

Why Are Some Dansco Albums So Hard To Find?

So I think I have an idea of the answer... But still. Why are some Dansco albums so hard to find, or not produced any longer? Or produced it seems in random spurts?

For example, I'd like to possibly start up a Washington quarter collection, which Dansco has an album for from 1932-1998, both with proofs and without.

However, they appear to have stopped producing this particular album. I found several recently after hunting around... For ridiculous prices. My local coin dealer has one USED for 50 dollars. And I found one online for like 80 dollars new. Ridiculous.

This doesn't seem to be the case with just this album, but other albums by Dansco as well. What gives?

Just wondering if anyone here has any of the older Jefferson proof nickels? Like, before 1955? 38, 39, 40's?

I have been indulging in collecting some of the older proofs down into the 50's. So far, it seems 1954 and older is when they seem to start getting costly. I can imagine a 1938 proof Jefferson would be quite costly.

How much did these kinds of coins run you? Any deals that you found?

Yeah, my time is more valuable. Time is something that I don't really have.
I am guessing that these coins be under the "ruined," category. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't be so cheap.

I was able to find a 1914-D for 6.00 dollars. Evidently, they are normally kind of a key date and can be quite expensive? Hell, I'll take an acid treated one for 6.00 dollars.

I suppose I'll look into some "undated," Buffalo nickels in the future. At least it actually shows what the day is however. I'd rather pay a teeny bit more for something that I know the date of for piece of mind. Many of the ones I purchased were only a dollar. I don't really have the means to find the dates myself, or to even bother honestly. Lol.

A good portion of the Buffalo nickels I have are already pretty worn as well anyways. Some of them the only way I know what the date/mm are is from the writing that I have on the 2x2 that it's in.
