commems CCF Master Historian of USA Commemoratives United States 11027 Posts	Posted 02/07/2025 07:25 am I can't help but think that the reverse design of the 1937 Roanoke Colony Memorial Half Dollar - Elinor Dare holding her infant daughter, Virginia - served as a reference source for the cachet on this Linprint First Day Cover (FDC) for the 5-cent Virginia Dare stamp. ChicagoCoinGuy Valued Member United States 185 Posts	Posted 02/08/2025 09:35 am I am sure that Commems can do a better job than me on this, but: our stamp collecting president (FDR) was the genesis of this issue. He has mocked up a design and sent it to postmaster general Farley. Somewhere on the web is a picture of FDR's mockup. This particular issue of 1937 is my favorite commemorative.
