I am sure that Commems can do a better job than me on this, but: our stamp collecting president (FDR) was the genesis of this issue. He has mocked up a design and sent it to postmaster general Farley. Somewhere on the web is a picture of FDR's mockup.
This particular issue of 1937 is my favorite commemorative. I have probably over 100 sheets of the issue. I love the generous selvege on the sheets.
I might be able to provide the definitive answer to the packaging question: I have two subscriptions for the ASE: one is for qty 1, the other is for qty 3. There must be a method to my madness for setting it up this way, but alas I was too late to combine them into one subscription and for the life of me I can't recall why I did it this way.
So I will be getting two separate shipments for this coin as a result. I will share pics!!!
I ordered two of each and they all shipped today. I am going to send them in to get graded and I do plan to get the RPs later this year. But I am really hoping they stop the series so that next year I don't have to be torn about deciding. I hear what you all are saying and I don't like the price either. Quality - well I fear for that. My 3 ASEs just got their grades posted and only one was a 70.
I don't want to pile on, however I disagree with the price of the silver medal being higher than the upcoming ASEs.
We just got back from Acadia National Park where we saw some bald eagles flying in the air. Beautiful bird, beautiful symbol. I'm much more excited about the ASEs!!!!!
My two Morgans received today. I've now got both pairs, which means time to send them to the West Coast to get graded! And to await for the upcoming ASEs!!!
Well I received my two Peace dollars yesterday. Would have been nice to get my usual 3, but I reduced my subscription due to the price change. My two Morgans arrive Monday. Then off to slab these four.
Let me ask a question on this topic which seems to be as appropriate as anywhere else: the bullion versions that stackers buy are simply ASEs without a mint mark and the fancy Mint packaging, correct?
To each his own, but I much prefer buying into the SLV ETF fund to make money off the price of AG. I get the concept of a prepper being ready in case fiat money breaks down, but in terms of buying/selling for investing I like to swing trade SLV. For collecting, I like to give my excess $$$ to the Mint :)
