Hello,

I purchased this 1882-1883 Korean 3 Chon recently and it was listed as an "old counterfeit" but I am not totally convinced that this item is actually a counterfeit and I think that it may be just a poorly cast original example. Anyone have any thoughts? Please let me know. Thanks.

I don't know much about these, but what is the weight? Should be around 10.6 grams according to Numista:

Obverse center circle looks a little off, compared to Numista images, but I suppose that could be from wear?

Perhaps others with knowledge of these coins and counterfeits will be able to provide better information.

Interesting coin.

I cannot comment on the authenticity, but can say that the blue material (adhesive residue?) might be removable with soaking in acetone and judicious picking with a wooden toothpick.

a green, blue or black enameled center section should be normal.
But this one doesn't look right if it obscures the mintmark?

Do NOT use acetone to remove the enamel!!!

Can't tell much about authenticity but it does look odd.

That reminded me - do you have a photo of the edge? As well as the weight
