Has anyone had similar experiences lately - USPS has become an abyss. What the heck is going on.

One priority mail package from SoCal - shipped December 3rd - has not even made it to my state yet. This might be somewhat excusable given the fires in Cali.

But then there is this - my Ground Advantage package is like a superball - just bouncing all over. MA shipment doesn't even route thru Denver, goes directly to LA. On the 10th they claim it is Arriving Late. On the 12th it will be Arriving On Time (the 9th was delivery date). On the 10th it hits my state. On the 11th it is in a different state (North Dakota). On the 12th back in my state.

I've had an odyssey once in awhile, but overall I think the USPS does a great job.

Its Christmas and USPS is busy, probably short handed, and get packages mix up. Perhaps union policy gets in the way?

I believe the USPS is in a transition period while major components are being restructured. New hubs are being developed with new facilities, but the transition is necessarily painful. I hope it's resolved soon!

True. I watched a Congressional hearing with the USPS Director recently. If he typical of USPS administration, I can see why there are issues. The restructuring / cost cutting that is occurring will surely result in problems.

As a rule, I haven't had issues with USPS in my area. There are the occasional hiccups but always resolved. The last package I had delivered went into "being delivered late" mode. Three days past when the Priority Mail package should have been delivered, I got a text at 6:00 AM telling me that it was delivered on my porch. I got out of bed and checked - no package. When I left for work about 8:00 I check the mailbox, and the battered package was there.

I'm glad OP started this thread. Even before Thanksgiving things were crazy here. Mondays my mails been getting here as late as 8:30 pm. A Priority Mail package that USPS has had possession of since the 6th, is finally supposed to be here today (13th) a week later. BUT, a crappy $6 purchase (free shipping) from Amazon made on the 9th is delivered on the 11th. About a month ago I'm waiting on 2 packages. I see carrier at mail box so I put my shoes on and go get it. One package in the mail box. Had to grab my keys and wallet and run the truck down. After telling her informed delivery said 2 were delivered at my address, she went back and rechecked the neighbors mailbox (around the corner from me) where she found my package.

This thread is exactly why I don't buy much, if anything, during the holiday season. USPS usually does a great job (despite Louis DeJoy's efforts) but why take chances?

Strangely enough, I just got an email from ebay saying a package is out for delivery. I'm used to seeing Amazon packages being delivered on Sundays but nothing else. I checked my Informed Delivery and it says same thing. Maybe they're trying to clear up some backlog.

Speaking only for myself, I've experienced Sunday USPS deliveries the last three years around the holidays--parcels only, not standard mail.

A few years back I was waiting on a package of silver proof quarters that I had ordered around Thanksgiving. Tracking indicated that they must have been Johnny Cash quarters because they;ve been everywhere man! Package finally disappeared from the radar in New York. I filed a claim and got refunded, 14 months later the package arrived in my mailbox.

This is common for this time a year. Also, packages being stolen are also higher.
