Yeah, last I checked none of the collectible 2024 gold eagles or gold buffaloes on US Mint site have sold out. Spot price is so high and such high premiums. You can buy prior years cheaper online. Back in August I bought a bullion 1986 1oz gold eagle at local coin store, 4.4% over spot, I'd never had a first year one before. I prefer the reverse family of eagles over the new reverse, just my opinion.

Morgans Dad, here it is. As you likely know, 1986 through 1991 they used Roman Numerals for the date which is cool I think. It's in good shape. I put it in a capsule after I took the pics. The first year mintage was high, about 1,362,650 and just bullion but still enjoyable to have one.

It seems the US Mint is going to strike 230 of the gold version with "230" privy and auction them on Dec. 12th. No price yet for the non privy version.

Don't know why, took a long time to load CCF pages.

@ Livingwater,

I Found the U S Mint is now using Another Word, Another way of doing business? As per the link you posted.....

" As a tribute to the number of years that have elapsed since the Flowing Hair dollar coin was introduced, the Mint will also auction 230 one ounce, high relief, 24-karat gold coins with a "230" privy mark on December 12, 2024. The first coin will be auctioned with the die in a custom-made display box. Each of the coins will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by the Honorable Ventris C. Gibson, Director of the United States Mint. Additional details about this special auction will be released at a later date. "

They will " Auction "

Probably go for like 50k each. Mint will make so much money they can bring prices on everything else back to earth...but they won't

Is that legal, is the US Mint authorized to auction freshly minted coins?

It seldom happens but it's been done before, don't know if the flowing hair gold with privy will be auctioned by the mint or through a dealer, the last time through a dealer.
