Saw an Auction that had a Un-Capsuled Picture of a 1995-W Proof American Silver Eagle, So I Watched, It sold " as is " for $2,7000.

Is this an Oddity, I think so.Sounds Cheap!!

Those who bid Knew, what they were getting ?

Is this the New LOW for a 1995-W Proof ASE? Thoughts,

It does sound a bit on the cheap side but can't really tell without actual pics of it. Could be the hype of the 95-W is waning.

@Earl - that is an ANACS holder, not PCGS, and might account for the lower asking price.

The fact that the un-capsulated 95-W ASE sold for so low that it was unprotected, the coin was placed on a wood table with no fabric under it to protect it - making certain that it would probably grade low. The images of it were taken from far away and details of the coin were sketchy at best.. I'm surprised it sold for so high...

John, Keen Eyes,

This Seller on the Bay sells " High End Coins ", So They Say.1909-S Lincoln VDB Cents, 1864-L Indian cents, 1877 Monster Scarce Key Dated Coins!!!!!
Most coins sold Here are NOT slabbed, Another Topic all together......

I have been following the sellers Auctions and Was told from the Site, They Only sell Hard to get High Value Coins. Anyone else would probably pass, I was trying to keep an Eye out for The Barometer, or Going Prices for Collectibles in the Numismatic World. 30, 102

In reality - people who can't tell if a coin is real or not shouldn't be buying high end coins for high prices in the first place. I used to make a pretty good living purchasing higher end coins raw, getting them slabbed, then re-selling them.

Beware is Correct!!!

However, Just because the Coins are " RAW " is No cause for Any Alarms. Just hone Your Grading Experience and In-Hand Grade Skills. Research The Type Coins sought.

People have drifted Away from Self Reliance in this Topic, Slabs rule some Collectors Examples, Only Slabs !!!....

The Collector that Has Raw examples is Far Out Of the Population Report of the TPG's. Most Known Collectibles were Raw once.......

Although, I will Also say I have seen Some Very Sweet, Raw, Heavily Clashed Indian Head cents,Some Sold for About $ 5,200.00.

This Sale Above took about 10 Days to Climb to that Height. Do I think it was Unc, ?

The total population of 1995 W ASE is 30,125
PCGS has graded 5,403
NGC has graded 7,483

That means that the majority of 17,239 are not graded. So you will have a lot of red flags.

After a quick gander at ebay - I guess the prices overall on the 95-W's have dropped - Here's a PCGS MS69 example listed for $3295 - Or Best Offer.......

hfjacinto, Thanks..... 100% Correct !!!! ( Except Total Final Mintage for The 1995-W Proof ASE= 30, 102).The U S Mint's own records.

Those of Us that Have a 1995-W Proof 10th Anniversary set, Many I am Sure.

Many, Many Many More Unslabbed than Not !!!!

That's just the two major or let's say "most respected" TPGs.
There are other grading companies that have slabbed these. Even the one shown earlier in this thread was ANACS.
So probably up to half of them graded and half still raw.
Yes the US Mint itself at some point lower the production to 30,102. Slight drop, not terribly significant, but that's the new number.
For a raw but still in the mint capsule 95W I don't think it's going to drop.
If you see one out of the capsule, all sorts of alarms should be going off.
I bought mine complete, just something about having that set with the gold.
I'd love to be able to get the 1995 4 Coin Gold set to go with it.

This is my next purchase. I picked up the 2019-S last week.
Still deciding whether or not to get the full set or the main ingredient.
