Got out into the field yesterday for more familiarization with my detector. No good finds to show: bottle caps, several crushed soda/beer cans, rusty washer, 4" dia rusted pipe (did not extract it!). But it was still a good outting as I got experience in what the tones/depth might indicate as well as how to extract the item. My newly acquired pin-pointer was very helpful in that regard.

I also found two metal pieces. One I think is the blade to a lawn edger. the other is a mystery. Here's what I can tell you. Can you ID it?

1. It's (mostly) metal but not magnetic. I think the outer frame is aluminum. A slight scratch shows silvery.
2. Center piece is slightly soft, like maybe leather or something. Looks rusted but it's not rust. Has two holes each opposite the other but do not go all the way through. Side view shows a seam running its length so maybe there is another piece inside.
3, No letter marking except for several numbers (see yellow outline in pic). The upper mark is likely not a number as it lacks the same definition as the lower ones. Lower ones read "11" and "05"
4. I dropped it on the counter and discovered it rings. When held, it only rings if held in the red circled area. Using a guitar, the ring is slightly high E flat.
5. Size: Frame is 4 1/4" long, 2 3/4" at widest, 1/8" thick. Center is 1/4" thick.

Edger Blade?

Mystery item.

Could it be a pice for a rear car quarter window lock?

Your "edger" looks more like a "wide" washer. We used to use those at the foundry I once worked for. when we used threaded rod to hold large core boxes together we would slip those "washers" over the ends of the threaded rods than a lock washer, then the nut and tighten the the nuts down and those big square washers would provide extra area to keep the lock washer from tightening into the wood. They were called "one holed rectangular washers"
