KenKat: catalog everything and show up organized

good advice. I use excel to catalog the collection. It includes retail pricing (from the Guide or here or just the web), coin weight in grams with a computation based on current spot pricing. Selecting which columns to print still results in 28 pages. But it may be worthwhile anyway to print.

This reply is mostly for my own therapy. But I appreciate everyone's thoughtful comments.

Foreclosure has two downsides. 1. when the house goes up for auction, any difference between the mortgage balance and selling price can be levied against my daughter. So not only has she lost the house but still has a debt maybe in the 10's of thousands. 2. Any equity she may have in the house goes up in smoke. Another slap in the face.

So my next advice to her will be: if you can't find good, stable employment soon, start the selling process NOW. This will have to be the last time I can pay her bills. I'm only buying her a little extra time to find the correct solution to her dilemma.

Without a good job she likely will have to move back in with me and the wife. Even that poses problems such as storing her stuff and moving our stuff out somewhere. Not to mention she has a dog and my dog is anti-social. He doesn't even like my wife being near me!

So much for enjoying retirement...

Unfortunately, I don't have much time. Foreclosure on her house is in 2 weeks. But if I don't get a reasonable offer, I'll try selling here as long as the moderator allows me.

Well, I'm gonna have to try and sell my coin collection. My daughter is in a serious bind financially and close to being foreclosed. I'm reluctant to dig into my retirement savings (again) to help her so the coin collection has to go.

I'm in contact with a local coin dealer who seems honest enough. Any advice on how to negotiate the selling price or what to expect. He has some of his collection displayed at a local antique shop.

I've got around $3000 (in today's market) in silver bullion, commemoratives proof sets, silver proof sets.

Received both coins in USPS mail today and yesterday. Signed up for subscription on both last year I think it was. The 2023 coins were $80, these $95 so wasn't expecting such an increase in price. Hopefully I can see a profit whenever I decide to sell. Thoughts?

Coins have that frosted look on the bust and mirror finish in the field. Nice looking coins however the frosted look seems to lack detail. Maybe it's just my old eyes. Examination under the scope showed no flaws.

BTW, the ribbon under each coin is not part of the shipped product. I generally add this to make is easier to pluck a coin from the holder.

Thanks all. First, I was using the wrong scale. Ring weighs 0.22 oz or 6.23g. Second, ring is not her original wedding band so less sentimental value. Still, she wants to hang onto it at least for now. Local jeweler said sealing and resizing would be expensive. So it sits in a plastic bag for awhile.

Okay, short story...
Wife has a white gold wedding band we had to get cut off. Arthritis made wearing the ring painful. Ring was bought long ago, so little info on it. Not sure of the purity (inside band is blank). It weighs 0.22 grams.

Any suggestions on how to determine what the gold content is worth given today's market? How does spot pricing factor into the equation?

Thanks for any useful suggestions.

Hope I'm not duplicating a topic. Tried searching for it and found nothing. So...

Just got a US Mint email touting the AW proof set for $23. Seems a little high for $1.25 face value. I looked up the 2023 set and found one on Amazon for $28. Assuming the original price was about the same as the 2024 set, that's ~ 17% increase.

I am collecting the circulated quarters (P/D) and wonder if the $23 is a reasonable value disregarding individual collectors tastes.

I do have the state quarter proofs so there's a collector's hole after 2008.

Frog: 1944D Eagle? Too many pics, most confusing

Fat-fingered the date. You couldn't figure out the error without commenting? Hmmm...

Too many pics: when I first started posting I was informed that obv/rev pics should be included. The location of the MD'ing did not afford a single pic which (IMHO) could clearly show the 'issue'.

To other replies, thanks. I initially thought of machine doubling but sought another opinion.

As with the first post, comments are solicited. I'm really curious about these 'defects'.

1994D Eagle: Obverse has doubling on the date, mint mark, IGWT and mouth/chin. This is the Good Luck quarter.

1944D Eagle: Same as the above but not so pronounced.

Finished a 10 roll coin hunt: 4 penny and 6 quarter. Stats are below.
I first have to mention that I found just one special coin included by a coin-roller with a sense of humor. The quarter had a green stick-on tag to the reverse. Incidentally, that quarter, a 1994D, is one of the anomalous coins. Intentional or coincidental? Who knows. It sure got a few chuckles out of me.

Nothing really special found but I added 3 or 4 quarters to my circulated collection and one 2009D to my penny album. I also found several quarters with anomalies (pics included) that I'd like some feedback on. There are 29 pics so I'll break this topic in two. Next post will have two 1994D quarters with some kind of doubling.

2001P Vermont state quarter: Obverse has cud below the "BE". Almost looks the a partial letter D.

1985P Eable: Reverse has mangled "M" in UNUM and two cuds: lower left wing tip and the "R" in DOLLAR.

1999P New Jersey state quarter: Reverse weird lettering in "NEW JERSEY" and the "C" in CROSSROADS.

PS - why can't people count?

Read the stats, Frog. One quarter roll was short and 5 of the penny rolls had excess coins (though I'm not complaining). The latter makes up for the quarter, this time. My prior roll hunt had 6 missing quarters in 6 rolls as well as missing pennies in 4 penny rolls.

All part of the hunt, I guess.

I rangled $64 in coin rolls from my bank: 8 penny and 6 quarter. Nothing great was found but I do have a several to mention. Also, I put together some stats on what was found which I've included .
Mentionables:
1. Found one Canadian penny (1965 I think).
2. The only 2024 coins found were pennies.
3. The "5+" in the penny tally means 5 extra pennies and 1 Roosy dime badly mangled and sent to my misfit pile.
4. Also found a slightly bent penny, going back to the bank. Also found a badly damaged LMC which is now in my misfil pile.
5. Found a 1970 S LMC, ?Lrg Date and low 7 (see pic). No extra value but I'll save it.
6. Found 2 quarters to help flesh out my circulated collection.
7. Last, but not least, is my measles LMC. It goes back to the bank but I found it somewhat interesting.

A few weeks ago I got 10 coin rolls from my bank: 4 penny and 6 quarter. I search these to complete my 1975-2013 penny album and to complete my circulation collection of the state quarters, ATB, Territories and American Women series. I recognize these will only have face value but I do it anyway.

Highlights of the hunt:
1 LMC went to the misfit pile. Barely recognizable.
Found 7 ATB quarters I lacked.
1 US Territories quarter I lacked.

Lowlights of the hunt:
3 of the 4 penny rolls were each short 1 coin
All six quarter rolls were short 1 coin
One quarter roll sandwiched in a dime in the middle
Another quarter roll had a 2014 United Arab Emerates 1 Dirham, nickel-plated steel coin (magnetic).

The above shortages aren't so much monetarily offensive as is the realization that they are likely (IMHO) deliberate! The more I think about it the more P 1 $ $ed I am. I definitely will mention this to the branch manager next time I'm there. I know when I cash in rolls, they are never checked.

Still not finding anything of significance but not a waste of time. Spent 3 hours at our new athletic facility today. Bug spray kept the gnats at bay anyhow.

Finds:
1. Sheffield utility knife, rusted blade still in place. Knife handle is broken so I won't spend time to restore it.
2. 12 gauge shell
3. Magnetic catch of some kind
4. Odd piece of metal. Non-magnetic, not lead, maybe aluminum
5. 2019P dime and 2017P LMC
6. 6" length of wire
7. Usual aluminum cans, foil, etc. (More trash than treasure)

I'm glad I at least found some coins (both were on the surface).
