Ok yes interesting. Yes the small hole is unfortunate, but overall this piece is very pleasant to look at.

An unusual shaped amphora with the wide neck, but very pleasing to the eye, and the subtle tones of the banding are most attractive.

Another really nice acquisition for the collection, Bob, and great provenance too.

Not got much in the way of pottery but have a few pieces.

Qing Dynasty Bowl, Simple design round outer. Recovered from a trading vessel that sank in the South China sea in around 1730, Recovered by divers in 1999. The Bowl Originates from the kilns of Jingdezhen in the Jiangxi province of China. These factories were famous for their high quality porcelain produced for imperial usage, as well as their wares intended for export to the West. The bowl dates to the Yongzheng rule, which was 1723 - 1735.

A very nice example of salvaged Chinese porcelain. Thanks for sharing, Kevin. Years ago I seriously considered picking up a couple of somewhat similar pieces from the 15th century Hoi An wreck in the South China Sea (since I have Viet family ties by marriage).

BTW, yesterday I won a large lot consisting of ancient pottery (bowls and vessels - most with chips), some potsherds, and three small terracotta busts. From a NY estate. None are attributed. Should be a fun group to research.

Please post some Bob! I love to see your posts with write ups. I do have a few bits of Indus Valley pottery but nothing outstanding. I will grab pics of them and post shortly.

Old pottery in shards is a collection item there?

So that may be why caves with bronze age burials are being sealed here. In a nearby cave children playing had broken all the cinerary vases decades ago. Don't ask how I know.
But even the shards can be stolen for sale I see.

Neat - and seriously old. I've seen Indus Valley pottery in various auctions through the years, but have never taken the plunge. Thanks for sharing!

Another super piece, Bob.

The skills of the ancient artisans never cease to amaze me. This ancient potter must have had an incredibly steady hand to create so many concentric circles perfectly.
