I can't belive this is a circulating coin, rather a mistake on Numista. And if so, I can't believe the paint would last a second.

If you read down on the linked page it tells you where they came from.

Those were definitely Non Circulating, so whoever listed it with (or suppled the info to) Numista got it wrong.

A bit further down on the page they've got it right.

Numista is a crowd-sourced site, there will surely be some errors here and there.

I'm thinking the item is listed correctly, it's just that the coins are NOT CIRCULATED, but are stamped/minted at the RAM in 'circulated' style (not in a 'proof' style). Basically, they came out as BU's.

I don't have a single clue how they actually make coins in Australia, but this is my guess.

Canada has issued quite a few painted coins which really did circulate, and the paint (or coating) did last a surprising length of time in circulation.

Hi Guys - I can answer what happened here. I am the referee for Australian coins on Numista and I added all of these Supercars 50cent coloured coins the other day. It was just a simple error on my part in selecting the wrong checkbox when submitting that coin. It has been fixed now and all is good. The coin is definitely Non-Circulating. One of the members on here pointed it out to me.

Cheers Mike
