Is This A Minting Error? - Coin Community Forum

bigtrevs98 New Member United States 8 Posts	Posted 09/19/2019 12:35 am I have a 1936 Buffalo nickle, that has a small ring going around the inside (the size of a dime). Is this some kind of mint error? Or just sat with a dime on it too long? It looks perfectly in the center. The reverse side looks fine. Second, I agree with @gincoin that this nickel was damaged after it was struck, most probably by a coin wrapper machine, but also potentially by a Gumball Machine (or any of a thousand other ways). We see these circumferential scratches pretty often. Gincoin43 Pillar of the Community United States 1543 Posts	Posted 09/19/2019 04:56 am Even still that's an old coin and it would cost you more than 5 cents to get one. If you want to check it for errors/varieties the reverse of that coin is more likely to have them than the Obverse. Two you could look for are a Re-punched mint mark, or there is also an overpolished die issue that can occur. Report this Post to the Staff
