I have a 1936 Buffalo nickle, that has a small ring going around the inside (the size of a dime). Is this some kind of mint error? Or just sat with a dime on it too long? It looks perfectly in the center. The reverse side looks fine. Just started out collecting, and only have 6 Buffalo nickles lol
Any help is appreciated

@bt98, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @gincoin that this nickel was damaged after it was struck, most probably by a coin wrapper machine, but also potentially by a Gumball Machine (or any of a thousand other ways). We see these circumferential scratches pretty often.

Even still that's an old coin and it would cost you more than 5 cents to get one. If you want to check it for errors/varieties the reverse of that coin is more likely to have them than the Obverse. Two you could look for are a Re-punched mint mark, or there is also an overpolished die issue that can occur.

To CCF! Despite the Coin Wrapping Machine Damage ( PSD), it's still a keeper.

Oh yeah, I'm keeping for sure. I work at a liquor store, so I see all sorts of change. From trashed 2017 coins to nice looking 50's and 60's. I appreciate the welcomes ^_^ and thanks for the answers from everyone. Now I know :P
