Should be EF (British grading), but lots of small digs and scratches hold back to good VF.
Value would be around $US400.

With a bit of rim damage as well by the looks of it, it's worth its gold ($300) in my opinion, though you might be able to get a little over gold value in sale.

That year Melbourne minted about 3 million sovs, a mixture of both shieldback and St George reverse coins.

Good pick up anyway, I am starting to wonder whether I shouldn't rebuild a type collection of these... I used to have one of each portrait but sold them on when gold peaked. Theres few safer things to have your money in than sovereigns, instantly liquifiable and hard to see gold ever losing long term.

Possible edge file otherwise looks like a solid AU58.
