I have a bounty hunter 2200 and I have been air waving some old jewelry over the coil. 14k-18k, nothing bigger then a 5 cent piece.

Is the copper causing the reading? I would hate to think that a gold sovereign was a rusty nail.

gold typically falls right beyond iron.....in the foil/pulltab range usually on most upper end detectors....the bounty hunter brand is not known as a good discriminator, it's an entry level brand
