I can't help but think that the reverse design of the 1937 Roanoke Colony Memorial Half Dollar - Elinor Dare holding her infant daughter, Virginia - served as a reference source for the cachet on this Linprint First Day Cover (FDC) for the 5-cent Virginia Dare stamp.

What do you think?

I would say you are on to something there. No mistaking the similarities. I like your cover. Here is the only one I have if interested:

I concur with you, commems! It is a striking design, and it looks good on the FDC. I've had my eye on a few other FDCs that relate to classic commemoratives; this might be the impetus I need to pick them up.

I say yours @Bump111 is a fascinating cousin. Both were postmarked at Manteo NC on August 18, 1937 and both contain the same stamp.

I enjoy your cover with the representation of Virginia Dare. Thank you for sharing it.

The different stamp covers cause me to wonder how many postal offerings were available for this stamp First Day of Issue.

Dozens of different FDCs were available.

Here's another that I've presented in the past:

The 1937 Roanoke Commemorative is Among Others in the smack midst of the 1930's that became known as the Classic era of Commemoratives, Thank Goodness.

I enjoy seeing these " snap shots ", if you will of our Numismatics being entangled in Our Historic past..Just seeing these is Awesome...

Thanks COMMEMS for Always having Very Informative Posts, ....

Bump111, Thank you also, Very Sweet Example.

I am sure that Commems can do a better job than me on this, but: our stamp collecting president (FDR) was the genesis of this issue. He has mocked up a design and sent it to postmaster general Farley. Somewhere on the web is a picture of FDR's mockup.

This particular issue of 1937 is my favorite commemorative. I have probably over 100 sheets of the issue. I love the generous selvege on the sheets.
