I'm really bad with this early stuff that we rarely get to see. I'm going to guess MS-63 with a shot at 64.

Don't be fooled by the strike weakness on the eagles breast and leg. Check out the PCGS site to see this same weakness on MS-64 examples.

You would have to be comfortable with your own grading capabilities to be able to agree or disagree with a TPG assessment on this one. Big swings in value through the different grades. MS-63 is 55K and MS-64 is 75K. A lovely coin but a large risk for a subjective opinion on grade. |

Held this one in hand.... and forgot the grade. It was certainly deserving of mint state and far superior than many other 96 dimes available today.
MS-63 is my guess.

It seems almost everyone is in the MS range. What do you think is the silvery streak on the back?

Not sure what's going on with that silvery streak on the back. That would hold it to MS-62 for me.

NGC calls it an MS(61). I agree, given some of the scratches/marks on the coin in these photos--especially the hook shaped one on her neck. Does anyone have any theories for what the silver streak is on the reverse? Thanks again!  Edited by Adam590

Perhaps the silver streak on the reverse was a factor in grading it a 61 (Under graded in my opinion compared to PCGS Photograde). A 61 shows not fully struck stars on the obverse and flat spots in the hair. This dime looks much better. PCGS values for 61= $42,500, 62= $47,500, 63= $55k, and 64=$75k. Given the large price swings I wonder if it is worth resubmission to PCGS. Is this your coin?
