1478 groat of the County of Flanders:

Hopefully spence will be back by 1472 when I have a gap. I'm counting only one Gregorian date missing thus far (1487), and bd251 kept us goin with an AH dated coin that year.

- no missing dates yet, and almost no non-AD-only dates either.

(AFAIK our first likely gap is 1464, which is not-so-coincidentally also the first year on our path that doesn't have any [known] AD dated coins.)

Sorry for the recent radio-silence. Just needed a break, but I'm back now and will try to catch up a bit but without overwhelming the thread:

Here are a couple Double Stuivers/Briquets from Brabant (Antwerp mint). The first is dated 1481 and the second is dated 1480:

And a lot of rust on that reverse die. I wonder how long it was sitting around -- and what year the coin was actually struck? (How long does it take a die to rust?)

Good question.
It's a pretty damp part of the world, which I suppose could contribute. And as you know, they were striking these coins at a pretty high rate for that era, so maybe all that whacking also accelerates the corrosion chemistry?

ttkoo you might want to double check this coin. GG doesn't list a half tanka during this time.
I think your coin is a falus of Ibrahim Shah dated 82x (GG# J8) that has been silvered. I have a couple with similar silver appearance that were listed as "half tanka" when I purchased them. I assume that the seller misidentified them because they appeared silver and were about half the weight of a tanka.

I'm leaning towards 824 as the date.
