Nice Peace with luster. VAMs can sometimes be difficult to ID. Many are listed on Vamworld.com but through the years updated lists were published by Leroy Van Allen. He retired from identifying Vams a few years ago and I think a few have been selected to carry on. You could post the coin pics on Vamworld's discussion group, more eyes there who may know.

It looks like it could possibly be one of the rusted die varieties, maybe go back and start there. As stated above, on VAMWorld, there will be many more that will be more familiar with the Peace dollar VAMs and may be able to help.

I just posted on Vamworld so I'll see what replies I get and report back. In the meantime if anyone has any ideas please share.

No I prefer not to soak it. I don't think it's a stain because we can see some raised metal at certain angles. I tried the toothpick approach on the raised dot but that thing is solid and still there. More waiting for the pros.

This is an interesting coin you have. I wasn't able to find much about what you are inquiring in the VAM book by Van Allen and George Mallis. Did you see anything stand out on the reverse?

On the reverse, the beginning of the rays at about 5 o'clock; something looks different on them.
The coin looks to have a great strike so your rays should be solid but if you look at where the begin,, you will notice that the rays are thinned out in the middle....not sure if I am explaining myself correctly.
But maybe the reverse is a doubled reverse?
A beautiful find nonetheless!!

No doubling on the reverse however I did find more dots and heavy polish lines around ONE.

Quote: however I did find more dots That would be part of the "rusted die" aspect I spoke of earlier in the thread.
