Hi all a little something different..
I'd like to know for the benefit of us all who are sharing ongoing and interesting details of their numismatics journey this :-
out of all the decimal coins issued since 1966, what are your thoughts and list on the pecking order of the most valuable, hardest to get coin(s) in true premium condition ?
To get the ball rolling : for me, it's a Ch UNC/Gem 1973 50c.
Coins like the 2000 $1 mule and the upset 2010 CoA 50c, or any other odd varieties, don't need to be included.

For me wild finds,hmmm 1985 50c coin EF sold it tho. found 3 1985 50c probably the hardest one to find I would say without a commemorative design.
in terms of premium for circulation obviously the $2 coloured 2013 coronation coins, however they are extremely difficult to noodle now and would be a waste of time. Are you going to make money noodling not for us Australians, your time spent has to be above minimal wages. However if you do it for the pure enjoyment or as part of your job then might be worth doing.
Note in the US circulation coins can be silver or rare enough that you can make money noodling selected hoards of coins.

The standard 2019 dated 50 Cents JC QE11 effigy may be a winner.
I have seen both final reports from the RAM for 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, and the total mintage of coins issued into circulation is only 70,000 pieces.
The 2019-2020 final report has only just been freshly published.
I would like some confirmation for the info I have supplied here, just to be 100% sure.
That is probably scarcer than the 'Incuse Flag' 50 Cents which I assume the reverse variety die was used until it was replaced due to normal wear, which would have been around 200,000 coins. The same order of size of mintages for the 10 Cents/1Dollar mule would have been the same at around 200,000 pieces.

sel_691 this year's 2019/2020 RAM annual report is a bit of a dog's breakfest. Untidy.
From my first reading I noticed - though I'll have a further closer read later - that there is an additional 19,000 2017 10c included amongst the mintage figures ? 2017 ?
As I've written in a few recent topics' posts, the complete final mintage figures for 2019 will NOT be available until the 2021/2022 RAM annual report.
The mintage figures for 2019 are only up to June 30th 2019, which is the usual cut off date for the RAM to begin the compiling their annual reports, and the RAM continues to mint the 2019 coins until they start the coin production for 2020.
Though, at this stage sel_691, and I've got a few of the 2019 JC 50c early, and like you, I hope we're on a winner, too.
And, of course, thanks Nevol for letting us all know the RAM report is available.

I agree with above, but I think any of the pre 2015 coloured $2 coins in MS64 or higher condition and without any colour coming off.
Collecting the lower coins, I think a circulation 5 cent coin dated 1972 in UNC would be very hard or any pre 1985 low value coin (20c or under) in gem UNC would be nigh on impossible. Unless of course its from a set or some UNC roll.
A C marked coloured 2012 poppy $2 in the circulation bags would be rare too.

@princetane it is believed or at least I believe that much like the 1992 MOR (none in mint sets either), that the 1985 20c and the 1988 20c figures might be a misprint (i have never seen one in circulation or being sold as circulated, however I do believe I have seen from time to time people post that they have found one with photo).
Nor is a "c" mintmark coins as that is not for circulation, or aleast not suppose to be.

I think we're going off track a bit as I was hoping to get an insight into the views of other collectors regarding what they think is their list of the rarest decimal coins starting from 1966. As I mentioned in recent and past posts, the RAM final mintage figures are disappointingly unreliable. What happened to any reference in the RAM's mintage figures for the 1995 20c Platypus, the 2007 $1 MoR's or the 2004 20c and 50c with the pointy " A's " ? And, yes, the 1992 MoR's even after me, and probably many others, notifying them many times and receiving the same answer as " we're working to fix that ". There was never any 20c platypus rolls from 1983 to 1993 + 1995 at all. All mint set Only. Interestingly, there were a few 1985 50c RAM rolls sold on ebay about 9/10 years ago for $1000 + each.

Hardest to get in good condition would be the early coloured $2 coins for sure.
In circulation the 1999 dollar coins are generally pretty rough too.

I would add as a very hard to find circulating coin is the 2016 5 cent changeover coin. Only 4.8 million minted and I have never seen one in circulation. Someone must be hoarding them. This one is a lot rarer than the 1972.

Not in any particular order
Early color $2 especially 2012 - 2015
2016 changeover dollar and 5 cents
2011 $2
1985, 2011, 2018 10 cents
1985 20 cents
1985, 1993 50 cents (pulled a few in the last few months)
1988 and 1991 commemorative 50 cents
2001 cof coins (try assembling a set today!)
2019 indigenous languages (haven't seen in the wild yet)

Thanks for the list.
I better hang on to my 2016 5c and $1 coins then,
and the indigenous languages 50c. Might be worth
something later.

Is the 1993 50c the scarce " fatter " 1993 date one ?

Agree on the 1985 10c - I've only ever found three - all very used.
I've found a few 2016 anniversary 5c pieces but only one of the anniversary dollars (which I think are the lowest mintage of the 2016 anniversary coins).

I have to come clean and got confused with my coins, my 1972 5 cent is only VF and cloudy. The rest I agree with, those $2 coins are hard work. I still yearn for a 2013 Coronation one and know this is a $100 plus purchase at the moment.
I have spent less on UNC Florins of the early 1940s!

Mike I decided to check mine and found that I have about 50 of the 5 cent changeovers but only ONE platypus 2016 5 cent coin.
