Might be worth giving it an acetone bath to see if you can improve it's appearance, as you have nothing to lose!

This 1982 50c coin which sold on The Purple Penny appears to have a similar flaw which was described as a 'sub-surface planchet flaw that has shown itself as planchet bubbles'.

Nice additions triggersmob but I'm not entirely sure about the Melbourne Centenary coin. Have you checked it's weight? From what I can see, there are two main areas of concern.

The first is on the obverse where the robe doesn't appear to extend all the way to the rim while the second is the lack of detail showing on the reverse where the hand is very faint and the horse's stomach is very flat.

Did anyone actually manage to get any from the Post Office or RAM?

I had two sets arrive this morning which I ordered online through Australia Post the afternoon that they went on sale.

I had intended to purchase them over the counter but they had sold out within the first hour!

Hi Ham and

I can't see how this could have occurred in the minting process. Being centred and round would just be coincidental as coloured $2 coins didn't appear until 2012.

There does however appear to be a small lamination error on the obverse.

I don't think so ... if it was a double dot the dot would not be off-centre but rather would be positioned directly above the middle of the 'N' in ONE.

In the US, these are called Die Chips.

Although this is the purest definition, in everyday numismatic communications you'll see the term " Cud" used to describe the blob created by any die chip or serious die crack, regardless of its placement on the die or coin.' https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/cud...coins-768438

Die Chip, not a Cud. A Cud involves the rim and some parts of the fields. http://cuds-on-coins.com/

Looks like a broadstrike error to me, with fishtailing evident on some of the numerals and letters around the top.

Hi Wardog and to the forum!
That's an interesting find but it's a little hard to see what's going on here without having the coin in hand.
Any chance of some closer views taken from a few different angles?

Hi Nineteen74, I'm guessing that you're looking at whether or not these finds are error coins?

If yes, detailing what you thing the error might be, as well as posting in the 'Variety and Errors' section, should see more responses. http://goccf.com/f/65

Hi Nineteen74
It often helps if you limit your finds to one coin per post and to show both sides of the coin in their entirety so we know the coin's denomination and year, as well as to get a better understanding of what we are viewing.

Hi Ripnrun and

Clearer photos are necessary so as to show more detail of the coin, and correct orientation is also helpful.
