So I have been hunting a lot of circulation rolls from my bank and I notice I'm finding a lot of newer dated coins and a lot less of the older, out of 2,000 nickels I found one 1938 nickel. The rest are all 1963's and up.

It seems like most of the coins I am searching are all the same to the point where I feel like they are just giving me back the same rolls I've already searched. This is obviously not the case because the last box of rolls I got I put a dot on each roll so the next time I went in I would know if they are just giving me back the same rolls I took in, I also leave a good week or two window before going back for more.

To be honest the one coin denomination I badly want to search (pennies) are no longer available and I have asked all the surrounding banks if they would let me get a box, I even talked to my local bank manager and offered MORE for a box of pennies and still no luck. The worst part is they all tell me they have some in the vault but aren't allowed to let them leave the bank once they come in (like salt on a wound i'd say) I have even been tempted to try and order a box online but I don't feel like $80-$90 for a $25 box of pennies is worth it enough for me to do that, I understand shipping would be a lot but obviously I have no issue paying for the shipping weight as I have a Canada post membership card with great discounts.

I've searched quarter rolls, nickel rolls, dimes, loonies and toonies you name it accept for pennies! does anyone know how or where I can get a legit un-searched box so I can finally scratch this itch I am dying to get at? I don't care if its US box or Canadian box I have penny fever baad . I live a few hours away from the border but as bad I want them I don't think driving 5/6 hours to the border and back for 2/3 boxes of pennies seems logical.

So my question is, are BU rolls from the bank worth the search? I like looking at older denominations an thats why I was searching circulated rolls and I feel like searching newer (1999's-2019's) BU rolls wouldn't make much of a difference other than they would be newer.

Sorry for my rant guys just wondering if anyone around knows of a legitimate place online for un-searched rolls of any denomination.

welcome to roll hunting in Canada, because of the ARP the amount of "older" coins is dwindling every day. I have the opposite problem with Pennies, all of my pick up banks want me to start taking pennies again (I quit pennies a year ago). I doubt you want to pay the shipping for boxes to be sent from BC (I would imagine it would be somewhere around $35+)

Thank you ace_ftw, I did wonder about that but didn't look too much into it, since the beginning of summer I was finding all kinds of pre-1960's coinage but just this last month I noticed a very big increase of newer coins being found in the rolls. I may just have to bite the bullet and order a box if my penny fever gets bad enough but if and when I did decide to I was hoping someone might know a place where I would find such box in un-searched condition. I see ads on ebay all the time and as tempting as they are I also know better than to believe someone with a mass stock pile hasn't taken a look already.

I just don't know why they jack the price up so high for a box, I get they are trying to make a few extra dollars but $60/$70 for a $25 box PLUS shipping is just a little too wild for me. If I could get them and were to sell them like they do I would be selling them for $35 plus shipping and I'm sure would be making money all day long, 14 pounds a box at around $30-$35 for shipping maybe less depending on discounted shipping Domestically with a total of $65-$70 for a box (all in with shipping included) seems more fair.

I do know a well known high end antique dealer that sells coin rolls of older denomination that are apparently un-searched but the question is, are they really un-searched lol. Even then he wants $5 up to $150 (key date/known for errors) for a roll of pennies depending on witch denomination and condition you want witch isn't all too bad even with the shipping.

Well, now I know how to get rid of my $200 face value of copper Canadian 1 cent coins! Except that I am not ready to get rid of them, nor are they unsearched.

About 1/2 of them came from bank rolls when I was collecting copper, and I only saved the copper. Of course I was not looking for varieties, only copper.

I guess that CCF would be an option when I am ready to dump them.

oriole, I would prefer purchasing from someone on the CCF over a random ebay seller no questions asked, I would also be interested in "partially searched" coins depending on the circumstances and price but I would only take this into consideration from a seller that is a member here. I wouldn't purchase partially searched rolls from a random ebay seller. So keep me in mind if you decide to get rid of some of those rolls.

There are tons of BU 1-cent rolls are out there, 1962 and newer....

silverwolf, for US 1 cents I'm looking for any dates 1970's and under and not really looking for anything specific I just really enjoy searching them and finding errors and variety's, for Canadian cents I'm looking for years 1940's to 1970's small cents, preferably un-searched, BU or Circulated is fine. I know circulated US rolls you can't really tell what years will be in them so the older the circulated roll the better but if the price is right I'm happy with what I can get.

SPP-Ottawa, do you happen to have any recommendations on where they can be found? I have searched a few places but I'm unaware of the legitimacy of the rolls from half the places I have found them so I haven't made an order yet, I just don't want to get rolls that were fabricated to look/seem un-searched.

There are still banks that will sell you pennies maybe they aren't supposed to but I think some are glad to get rid of them so they don't have to deal with them I just picked up 165 rolls last week. but I never return them to that bank so it works out well. Just keep trying until you find one that will. I stop at every bank I see when I'm travelling . Good luck

Just got a mint bag of 1963 pennies and am debating cutting it open and searching or not. Might have to see if I get the same search fever as you. Lol

So I went to my bank today and after having a long conversation with the teller I ended up walking out with ALL the pennies they had! (only a few rolls) I live in a small town so I didn't expect as many as I got but at least I found a nice 1976 clipped planchet in my first roll!

@johnwayne, of course I will consider CCF first in disposing of any rolls. Of course by then you may be thoroughly sick of them so no commitments either way.

You mentioned that you were in a small town, but if you can get friendly with a LCS (presumably in a nearby larger area), they might be prepared to give you a pile of them at face value. Last year my LCS was getting rid of $30+ worth because they were cluttering up the shop and the demand was low. Then have a U-pick tub of 1 cent coins (1937-2012) they sell for 5 cents each. I am sure that anyone who wants to buy the lot could get a good deal.

My LCS is in Ottawa so if for any reason you are contemplating being here, PM me and I can let you know if it would be worth your while.

oriole, I don't think I will ever get sick of pennies, especially after the hoard I managed to get my hands on locally, 1st roll I got a nice clipped 1976 and than 2nd roll a I got a 1921 one cent penny! , I also grabbed a box of nickels today and I got a full roll of 1967's in BU original bank roll, they also gave me the pennies that got brought in this morning I got a good feeling about this batch!

JW, I'll PM you and see if we can work something out. I have endless unsearched rolls of US cents here (unsearched by me at least, lol) and I'm willing to help you out.
