Interesting acquisition. I assume acquired for bullion value? Does it pass the tissue test at least?

The tissue test is but one of many home (kitchen) tests for silver.
Ice would be better.
But not as good as a suspended N-52 magnet.
Certainly the SG would show a 7 or 8 number.
Not a number into the 9's or 10's as silver should.
Trouble is not many people have done all the home tests for silver.
They have not purchased known good silver coins to compare.

Yes, those may be necessary, but the tissue test is an easy first step and if it fails you have saved some time from doing more involved testing.

Can't quite say yet. Looks to be cleaned example.

Do you know the weight of it? Down to 0.1g

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate your input. Happy New Year to y'all.

I have never heard of the ' tissue test' so I gave it a try.
Results = very indeterminate; my aged eyes cannot discern any difference,
when compared to three similar pieces of varying Ag content, all of which I am
certain are genuine.

My usual 'go-to' determinant for silver is the 'ring test' on a hard surface.
All of these sound about the same. I bought the coin in a stapled 2x2; thus
could not fully examine it before purchase. I am not sure how to go further with this.

I did not pay a huge amount, but the cost was quite a bit more than bullion value.
I guess I will keep it for now, but do plan to have a discussion with the seller.
I have put a LOT of hard earned cash into his hands over the past x years.

edit: Yes, it does appear cleaned, but not severely, which I don't mind all that
much on a less-than-BU coin like this, as long as it is not scratched or whizzed.
I will have to locate my misplaced digital scale to get an accurate weight.

I hope it is a productive discussion and look forward to the results.

Both Seated dollars in my 7070 have been cleaned. They are also circulated, so that does not bother me. I might not have afforded them otherwise.

yup jbuck those Seated dollars are fairly easy to find but not so easy on the budget.
it's a lovely series and I have thought many times about working on a date set,
but I already have too many irons in too many fires.
i would not mind viewing yours. 'one of these daze' I will post my whole 7070.
have been waiting until the last six holes get filled.

I've found the tissue test can work.
I used a single thin ply or a piece of tissue used for wrapping gifts.
If you compare a brilliant silver coin to a common base metal fake, you can see it.
However, if your silver is toned, dull or somehow not brilliant, shiny, reflective it may not be so obvious.
My very first check I do is my suspended N-52 magnet.
I do demonstrate the tissue test, ice test, magnet slide & others to interested clients.
Many are surprised when they witness the ice test.

I can say the same, at least regarding my transformation from zygote to fully cooked human baby.

Weight down to 0.01 gram would help as gxseries pointed out, digital scale are relatively inexpensive, here's one I found on Amazon.

@mac I have one; it's just a matter of locating it among the general clutter.

i had the weight checked today at the place I bought it.
it is what I consider 'within spec' because I cannot vouch for
the accuracy of his scale. also my strongest magnet has no effect.
so I guess that ends this thread. thanks again to everyone for your input.

If your strongest magnet is an N-52, and having no effect, that is not good.
You should see a diamagnetic reaction.
I always say SG is among the best checks.
I don't recall reading very many results on this forum when I consider them to be such good bets to begin a check with.
The downside is that such a check would reveal a coin to be not good silver at all so we may never see a post.
The OP would then already know, so no inquiry would be posted.
I'd like to see cases where suspended N-52 magnets and SG tests were done to tell the OP the coin is not good silver and share that experience here with us.
