I've ordered from goldmart once and had a fine experience. They are just passing on the fees that they are charged if you use a credit card.

You probably didn't buy with credit card but if you did you should consider a charge back. A newly minted coin with a significant scratch is a defect.

I made a purchase from there recently and used a credit card. Shipping was $52 on $1,300 worth of silver but was a good price even with the shipping being waht it was. I understood the price before I bought and am not unhappy. I will purchase from them again.

That is an excessive price for shipping, IMO. I just ordered $3400 worth of silver from APMEX and they charged me $25 for shipping. That's half the cost for nearly 3x as much silver. Of course, quite a few businesses give a low price for something and then make up for it via a higher than usual shipping price. All that aside, if the total deal was good for you than that is what counts.

I recently ordered a big chunk metal from goldmart. I got a shipment in a small flat rate USPS priority mail box. The box can barely hold the metal if not for all the tape outside. It is such a giveaway. I complained to the customer service but was told it is industry standard. Is that so? I got shipment from APMEX before which came in much robust box and larger package so it wasn't so obvious that what might be inside.

We should start a discussion thread with "unboxing" photos since quality of shipping is critical with PM purchases.

I totally agree regarding APMEX...IMHO they are the gold standard for careful, quality shipping of PMs.

They said that is the way it was received from the mint. Yeah...right.

At which point they should have returned it.

A friend of mine sold Budweiser steins. He got in several that were missing part of a color, or gold leaf, or a bad lid. Back they went, sometimes the replacement, too. At one point, he got one of his earlier returns a a replacement.
Rest in Peace

When US banking becomes civilized, this nonsense of PayEnemy or cc surcharges will disappear. Just get the bank and account number and do an EFT type transaction, costing about one cent. Banks are already doing this in free bill paying and auto-payments.
Rest in Peace

Welcome, forever!

Sounds like you've had some bad experiences with GM and GC. That's never good news.

From my experience, I've found that if you place enough orders through any of the online dealers, something will eventually go wrong. That's life. HOWEVER, what sets the good dealers apart from the bad is how they work to correct the problem. Believe me, there are plenty of other dealers out there who will treat you right and be glad to have your business.

When you use a credit card at goldmart they charge you a 2.95% processing fee, but they don't have that as a seperate line item on your invoice, they just add it to the shipping cost which isn't all that bad from them.
They're not really charging you $50 for shipping, it's probably more like $11.95 for shipping and $39 for your credit card processing fee.

Actually, I REALLY REALLY like that Goldmart pads their credit card fees in the shipping charge. The very idea of paying that much for shipping and insurance has stopped me more than once from being lazy and not mailing a check.

Yeah? Well, that's not OK with me either.

Report them to the credit card company. Visa/Mastercard does not allow it. They can get their account terminated. Merchants are also not allowed to ask for additional ID in a normal transaction, meaning if a cash transaction doesn't require it, they may not require it for Visa/Mastercard either.
