This is a brilliant pool of work! I have a case of old Indian coins catalogued with handwritten notes by my grandfather maybe 60 years ago. I have found the coins too intimidating to try to go through. This will be a big help. If you were ever to feel the urge, commentary about rarity or value would be of great help.

@brokencompass: Thank you for the comment. These are my coins only. I identified all these coins myself and that was a real challenge. And I am very happy that the pictures are proving useful.

@10xloupe: Mughal calligraphy is one of the most diverse of its kind. Thanks for the comments.

@Smallcentguy: I am happy only to help you with whatever little I know about the coins you have. Please post pictures and I shall be trying my luck. Thanks.

It must be very hard work, but fun also. Do you buy, find them or inherit them (:

Hi!10xloupe, indeed it was fun and I never felt tired of it. I bought them over a few years when they were not as expensive as they are now. Most of the copper coins were bought a few at a time 10-15 years back at prices around $1-2, save a few rare ones. For the Silver pieces, generally I had to pay around $20-25 save a few expensive ones.

I live in the extreme South of Indian peninsula where we do not come across coin shops that often. There are a few dealers in coins who visit our place. They have been my main source.

This collection was built up in around 30years. So by the time medieval coins became hard to get, I was fortunate enough to have formulated a relatively sizable collection.

Some coins bought unidentified at a low price later became gem pieces after identification. Khan Desh coins (not yet posted) that are very rare and a few Delhi sultanate coins fall in that group. Among the Mughal coins, dams from the mints Malpur, Saharanpur, Kashmir etc also are scarce. So to speak, work and a bit of luck have worked together in my case! Thanks.

A copper dam of Akbar (1556-1605.AD), issued from Gobindpur mint. On the obverse, legend is encircled by double lines and a circle of dots in between.
