It's in a 2x2 so not easy to get right but MS63 may go 64

Actually a pretty nice strike for a 1940. I'd say MS64.
EDIT: Close but no FS

Long time everyone! I'm back for my winter coin season
Late start for me this year but its great to start it off with a Jefferson which is where I'm diving back in this season in my collection.

I was at a 63 from the front but the back jumped out as a 64 for me. would love to see it outside the flip tho.

I see that flat spot between section 2 and 3

I would tend to lean to FS...I've seen worst in slabs

It needs to come out of the 2x2 before grading. The obverse looks like it could have been polished. It's likely the lighting and the Mylar reflection though.

always remove from holder when possible as it alters the look of the coin. the lighting an holder are making the obv look like it was polished

MS64- I've seen way worse get the FS designation. better shot of just the steps would help confirm it.
