same answer as on another forum

"Shooting from my hip, I think your piece is authentic. I do believe it was deeply cleaned and probably endured the removal of some encrustation that further eliminated much of the coins details. I believe your piece is the real deal."

and though this coin is certainly old; it is far from ancient and at least 200 years off from being medieval

Yes and this is why I'm going to move this thread over to a more appropriate subforum. I do note that this other area is visited periodically by some folks who specialize in these things. @curr, pls check back periodically to see if you get some additional answers. Thx.

I would like to see the New Forum that this item is being moved too. I really curious why the Cross is still bold and the surrounding outer field area is terrible, maybe because of acid treatment, but then the denomination of the Reale versus a Cob with this shape pictured/ goldnugget

If you see the topic, you see it.

It was moved from "Ancient, Greek, Roman, and Medieval Coins" to "World Coins and Commemoratives"

@gold, while you are waiting on further replies, consider doing some searching on CCF to find threads with similar coins. To get you started, you could use keywords such as SHIPWRECK, SPAIN or SPANISH, and REALES.

Nice pocket piece. Weight is consistent with a heavily corroded 2R cob. It might have been in an encrusted clump, protecting the cross detail. Regarding the 1715 fleet, you have a piece of paper saying that it is, and that's all you'll ever know.

Here's an example of a clump of cobs from a 1641 wreck. If you want to know more about cobs from the 1715 treasure fleet and their value, Sedwick's old auctions are a good place to look.

Here's an example of a 1715 fleet cob similar to yours, which came with an elaborate certificate:
