I was looking on the US mint site and saw that there was an American Silver Eagle being issued by the San Francisco mint. While I was ordering the current one I asked the customer rep when this particular coin was first minted.
I'm curious about this because I thought that I had somewhat complete set of the coin. However, the rep didn't know the answer.
Does anyone know the answer to this question?
Couldn't find the answer on the mint's site on the internet.

Based on my quick search, the only non-proof coin to actually have an S mintmark is 2011. Other than that, many years had coins struck at the SF mint without an MM and many Proof years were struck there with the MM.

Bullion have been made at San Francisco, West Point and Philadelphia none have mint marks. The first ASE (1986) were made in San Francisco but had no mint mark.

For regular individually minted (clamshell holder) proof ASEs, the production was: 1986-1992 San Francisco S mm 1993-2000 Philadelphia P mm(2000 was the last year to date for a proof P mm ASE) 2001- now West Point W mm In 2018 the San Francisco mint also started making individually available ASEs, which continues (San Francisco mint also made them in 2017, but not available in the clamshell holder as an individual release) No proof ASEs were minted in 2009 at all, only bullion were made.

Lots of good info and references here. ASEs can be quite confusing. Here's a summary of the years S-proofs were made: 1986-1992 Proof 2012 Proof (SF Set and Coin & Currency Set) 2012 Reverse Proof (SF Set) 2017 (Congratulations Set and LESPS) 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof 2019-2020 Proof 2021 Proof Type II 2021 Reverse Proof Type II ( ASE Designer Set) 2022-2024 Proof There was also a burnished/uncirculated S in the 2011 ASE 25th Anniversary Set. The lone San Fran MM burnished/uncirculated of the entire series. It will be interesting to see what they come up with for the 40th anniversary of the ASE and/or the semiquincentennial* (250th anniversary) of United States independence. *yes, I had to look that up.

I don't think the above list is really accurate. San Francisco has made a proof ASE every year since 2017, the first year of that range was only in the 2 sets, since 2018 as a separate issue (clamshell). I didn't delve into special finishes. The claim about no mint mark in 1986, sorry that want really specified as to bullion, I thought the conversation was about mint marked ASEs, of course bullion has no mint mark

I guess for the regular proofs, at least 2018 is missing. You went through 2021 more thoroughly than I expected, and I think my brain missed something in the translation. It gets boggling to add the special finishes.

CelticKnot the only other thing jumping out at me are the Limited Edition sets, those have been San Francisco since 2017 to date, the 2021 set also had a proof type 1 West Point with the proof type 2 San Francisco, but you only got 2 silver quarters that year, Tuskegee Airmen and Washington crossing the Delaware. Other than that anomaly, the Limited Edition set had only used San Francisco silver eagles (since 2017). Since you wanted to list all the sets. But mainly important to note that San Francisco has produced "normal" proof ASEs every year since 2017.
