Are the ASE plastic cases in the set the same as the ones the Mint uses for the presentation box of the single coin? I have a set that is missing the ASE and want to restore it to its original glory. Thanks for any info

Hello Mojo,

The 2016 Annual Uncirculated Mint Set came with the " same " capsule as the ASE's come in, Only the ASE's are Nesting in a Sweet Flip Top.

The 2015 Unc Mint Set comes with an ASE , Having the same capsule holding the coin, Only it's embedded in the Presentation Cover.....

Hope This Helps, MD..

On the annual uncirculated dollar set, the capsule would seem to be different as it is not removable from card it's mounted to. It even seems different than the congratulations set. So it seems like it's never going to really look right. What condition is the card in right now?
Some sets did use the same capsule as the individual proof or Uncirculated issue. The Limited Edition set beginning in 2016 or the 2016 Reagan Coin and Chronicles set come to mind, there may be others.

They ran out of dead presidents!
I did pick up the missing years of the uncirculated Presidential dollars.

I finally had a chance to play with this set, I had a case that was able to fit the hole tight enough to not need any adhesive. The original cases used have a flange that sit in the middle of the inner and outer cardboard.

I wonder how they removed the original ASE (WHY is a different matter) without damaging the cardboard?

The cardboard holder is folded and held together with a couple of glue spots. I am assuming this was done to maximize the resale profit.
