The mint product limit on these was listed for months at 17,500. Now they've changed it down to 10,000. Just like the silver version which they dropped from 75K to 50K.

I doubted I'd get a straight answer but I sent the mint 5 emails asking specifically a simple question "Why did the mint lower the product limit of the silver flowing hair from 75K to 50K? Was it lack of planchets, planning to add them to another product as set or something else. Of course all I got was general blah blah Congress sets the laws and the mint follows them.

I didn't buy these but will be interesting to see if they do release any more by themselves or as a set. If no more are released this will add to their value appreciation potential. But I still don't like the mint lowering the mintage and don't like them auctioning off the gold privy ones.

The fact the U S Dis-Appoint-Mints changed the direction of Possibly obtaining one of these , Auctioning and Then lowered the Pre-Mentioned Mintages. ( unless maybe you have one ) .

My favorite actor on "Dallas" was Jim Davis who played Jock Ewing. Long before he appeared on "Dallas" he played a leading role in a series called "Rescue 8" in the late 1950's. (Yeah, I'm old!) That show was the forerunner to shows like "Emergency!", "Rescue 911", "Chicago Fire" and the like. Jim Davis set the standard for being a no non-sense kinda guy on that early show. He was the perfect actor to play Jock Ewing, too!

The Mint can do whatever they want with their products now. I'm no longer a buyer after this latest "Customer depreciation" event of theirs!

The mint site shows the flowing hair gold dollar as having a montage limit of 17,500, and a product limit of 10,000. What's the difference? Does mean an additional 7,500 might be available, but not as a stand alone item?

That might be a safe assumption. Allowed, but not guaranteed?

Current opening bids: Coin #1 (w/ dies) - $170,000. Coin #230 - $15,000. Slabbed PR70, Non-Privy examples are asking $5,500; starting to see FDOI slabs from the Baltimore Show. Ungraded in OGP are $4500 - $5000 at the best known web auction site. . .
Hunter S. Thompson's famous tag line " Bad craziness " comes to mind. . .

In the gaming world it's the equivalent of "pay to win" (vs "play to win" meaning "play the video game well to win"). This causes the vendor to prioritize the "whales" (suckers with money).

185 of the FHG coins are PRF 70 DC as graded by PCGS. The remaining 45 are PRF 69 DC.
The lowest current bid on the PRF 69's is $7,500. Coin #2 is at $14,000.
The lowest bid among the PRF 70's is $8,000. The 230th coin struck is now at $30,000. . .

It would be intriguing to know what "defects" pushed those 45 examples off the PRF-70 pedestal. . .I doubt anyone at PCGS will spill the beans on that.
