I've collected coins on my life not knowing why just recently started looking at them ran across this being such an amateur I'm not sure how to tell the difference between a damaged coin and an error coin.

to the CCF One of the first things to learn when looking for real errors is that when you have a buildup of metal above the surface with a corresponding divot, scratch, or gouge, 99.99% of the time its damage. It's not posable in the minting process.
