I'm starting this one for my Brother.
Died while serving in the US Navy.
So I'll be trying to get one coin from each country for his Birth year and Death year.
I have his Burial flag and I plan on making an enclosure for this flag and topped by his service medals and the coins I manage to get .
The coins I get will be (hopefully) of the same denomination for each year.

The target years are 1969 and 1994.
So here goes - the first pair I managed to buy.
1969 Belgium - 50 Centimes
1994 Belgium - 50 Centimes

As with your birthyear, I will do a dive in my world coins tomorrow, and see if anything materializes.

If I find some 1969s, I will post which types, so that maybe some other members here with more recent coins might find their 1994 counterparts.

Are there countries where he served that we should look for?

Wow that is such a nice idea, I don't have much in the way of world coins but would love to contribute if there is anyway I can. Is it a specific coin type, country etc.?

Nice thought John. I fixed the target date in your post from 1996 I changed to 1969.

A 25 year life is a life that has been cut waaaay too short.
Your brother? - a Hero.
We all own him a huge debt.

I empathize.

As a coin collector, you do well.
If it was me, it would develop rather naturally into a passion.

Bring us with you on your journey.

Thanks for fixing my typo up there John - I misses that one..
and I appreciate all the comments so far - this will be a journey for me. so lets see where it goes.

As for you're question to what countries he went to - he never left the US. You see, he was an AT (Aviation Technician) he flew with a crew on P-3 Orion Hunter/Killer Aircraft that flew from the US coast to an area over the ocean to be on patrol then return.

Well here are 2 more sets first one is
1969-1994 - Denmark 5 Kroner
Both coins are the same denomination - but they are different sizes from 1 year to the next. I think that is kinda interesting and something I did not expect.

I very well remember spending the 5 Kroner coins (not that date), from pocket change,
when I was in Denmark, decades ago.

Wonderful and beautiful additions, Dearborn!
I wonder why Denmark resumed "holing" their coins?
