All the Half Frances in have are a silver colour, not sure of the terminology and some very early ones that I know are part silver. 1. Is this coin just had its day and the plating rubbed off 2. Was it mis- minted on a different planchet...bronze or base metal or ?' 3. Could someone have misused this coin with the intention of misleading 4 It weighs the same as a silvered Half Franc...2gr Report this Post to the Staff

At least with US clad coins, being buried in acidic soil as mentioned by @bojan can produce a similar dark surface staining.
