How did an 89 year old silver coin in EF45 condition get to be "blast white"?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

The terms "EF-45" and "Blast White" do not belong together.

Right, Blast White is wrong the wrong term, extreme luster is more appropriate. I see no signs of it having been cleaned though. Can any of you who thinks it's cleaned be more specific in what you are seeing please?

EF possibly cleaned.
Appears to be a lot of hairlines on the obverse and still some tarnish in the nooks and crannies of the reverse, would have to assess it in hand to be sure.

Lustrous is the word you were looking for.
Nice pics of your coins BTW.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I'd say XF cleaned .... lots of small minute scratches and digsin all directions and a coin that old would not be "blast white unless someone helped with it. Could have been rubbed with talc and then polished, and not recently.

Dipped yes, cleaned (wiped abrasively) probably not.

Dipping shouldn't matter as most white coins of an old age have probably been dipped once or twice.

I remember in the 1970's going to large coin shows and you couldn't find a toned coin in the whole bourse as dealers had an open jar of dip behind them as brilliant white was the fashion back then.
