Pro : - Nice clean field - Decent cameo for the issue - good overall eye appeal
Con : - A notable rim nick in front of the first G of Georgius. -The hairlines behind the King's neck are a big nono for me
Overall Id say Ms-64 but the hairlines put it in the Ms-62/63 range IMO

Nice coin I will guess around MS64 was leaning towards MS63.

I'm torn about saying MS Details. The rim damage is hard to ignore once you see it. My impression is that graders are tough on these because so many were minted and so many were saved. My own example got MS61 and only has a plethora of very tiny nicks and no large distracting marks. A TPG may not detail it for the rim but I'm thinking they'll net grade it to MS62 for that, the hairlines and the chatter.

Since both PCGS and NGC get these wrong quite a bit, I'd say they graded it SP65 or PL65, even though I'd guess MS64.

I don't think those hairlines are such a big deal. They're scratches - no idea how the got there but they're not the result of harsh cleaning and that's where the hairlines that are the most concerning generally come from. The rim nick is a bummer - but I'd be incline to make a details call on that. The reverse is pretty close to flawless. Given all that, I'm at MS-65 details: rim damage.

to the CCF I don't see the rim damage as a real issue. Lovely coin indeed. I say MS65

Thank you all for the input as I'm still training my eyes for the grading scale it is graded ms63 by PCGS. The hairline is not distracting. The marks on the high point on eyebrow and cheek plus the ding on the rim. The reverse is pretty much flawless with a small ding in front of the boat at 9 o'clock. I would say it's worthy of MS65 when comparing with other silver dollar MS65 from the same era.

I'll say MS-65 normally, but because of rim nick I'll say either MS-64 straight or MS-Details

They must have given it 63 due to the marks in the right obverse field. I was at 65+ studying the photos. Lustre is completely unbroken and hardly any marks at all other than eyebrow and cheek scuff and the aforementioned light scattering of lines. I think it's a harsh grade and it deserves a 64 at least.

You'd go insane trying to figure out how the Yanks grade when using comparisons to ICCS grading.
They're just two completely different systems.
Sometimes you'll find an overlap, but most of the times the grade will be different.
