Quote: when is the general release to the public? anyone? Coins are usually released to the public on the 1st Tuesday of the month. That mean tomorrow, March 7.

They didn't have this at the two post offices I checked out, so I ended up ordering from the Canada Post website. It was free shipping. I don't see it on the RCM website yet.

Will there be a difference in quality of coins between this set and the gift sets?

I think I've become extremely cynical, because there is a part of me that says the RCM will pull an "AirMiles" style bait-and-switch... Do all the Canadians remember that? (they said Miles were going to expire after a certain period of time after years of saying "no expiry", so people bought all kinds of crap just to use them after saving for a big trip for 20 years, but the uproar was enough that later they said "oh we change our minds back now, so back to no expiry"?) Was it the plan to stay the same all along, but this was how they got people to get rid of a lot of Miles for crap instead of saving for 10 more years for trips? Like I said, I won't be surprised if it's all just a plan to make sure these sets really sell out first, then double dip and have the KCIII ones come out all along. (I hate feeling this suspicious..)

@darcyrmt: Not everything needs a conspiracy theory!
It seems a perfectly suitable thing to have a last, special set honor the monarch of the past 70 years before issuing a set for the new monarch.

Oh, I understand that, and I'm one who spends a lot of time saying the exact same thing: "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".. but this forum is full of threads referring to what seems like never-ending commemorative stuff just because the RCM is definitely a for-profit enterprise. I agree it is absolutely reasonable that the RCM should have a wonderfully done and special last set for the Queen - and they will, and I am very glad for it! I don't care that it is non-circulating only - I won't get it, and my aunt will! :) But that means people like me, the collectors of strictly CIRCULATING coins, get nothing for a year? It doesn't seem to make financial sense for the RCM to do that.. Considering how many people will save a set of new KCIII coins from their pocket change (like QEII coins in 1953), taking the coins out of circulation, maybe becoming interested in coins altogether and becoming occasional RCM customers and adding to the Mint's future profit - it seems strange that they would let that opportunity pass. It is his first year, after all. Anyway, sorry for the topic hijack, just peeved I'll have to wait another year to get my kind of KCIII coins.. :)

Would not be surprised RCM would give us a non-circulating coin set with KClll later.
