When I first saw the announcement for the issuance of the 2020 Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter, I was caught by how much the person pictured resembled my sister. Not so much by the age of the person on the quarter but more by the hair style, clothing selection, and the activity being portrayed.
I had a chat with my sister about it, who was progressing through colon cancer, and told her it would be cool if she posed for a picture and posed like the coin. I could then buy a few rolls of the quarter from the mint and then put some of those in flips for her grandchildren.
Well, we never followed through.
Flash forward to last week.
Her condition worsened, of course, and as a surprise, she posed for a picture last week in between bouts of immobilizing pain.
She died Wednesday of this week. With me adding 3 more stents to my collection late January and this, it hasn't been a great year for me so far.
But there are signs of improvement...
Thanks to two coin shops in the area where she lives, I was able to get 14 BU's of the coin and some flips. Just a few more than were needed for the grandkids. They loved them.
Here's the posed picture of art imitating life and life imitating art.
