RAM has announced there is an unlimited mintage of the Vegemite year set. Is this a first? Also odd that they are conducting a ballot for the vegemite sets. If unlimited, why bother as nobody will miss out. Also, if they mint more later in the year, they will be with QE2 or KC3? Edited by David Graham 11/16/2022 4:46 pm

It was on the queue-it page while waiting in the queue.

Doesn't the RAM always try to sell as many mint sets as they can?

The proof set is unlimited? Not limited to 30,000, oops.

So in effect they will continue minting coins with the deceased monarch?

I thought the limited mintage was only in recent years - some marketing tactic I assume.

Have a ballot and sell to all of those customers only, who applied. The cost accountants at the Mint determine what the new issue price should be, based on market research sales records for previous near similar issues, for maximum profit. That way, the Mint satisfies the whole market but at the same time, is not stuck with an over production of product.
That makes this sort of product less attractive against the original issue price, in the collector after market
Perhaps I am slightly cynical, but the Mint is a business after all, and part of it's mission is to maximize profits.
As a collector, I become less interested, both in the original issue, and in the collector after market.

So does that mean I will eventually receive my 2023 mint set that is on back-order at the post office?

Yes,whilst people are buying this crap that in 50 years time will be the same value or less they will milk it. My major beef is the offloading/dumping by the Oz Mints of unsold Coins to major overseas Dealers, mainly USA,at close to melt value, mainly Silver but some Gold.

If the 2023 uncirculated mint set has unlimited mintage then why are all the post offices out of them?
