I'm wondering if any of you can tell me anything about this Swiss shooting medal as I haven't found much. NGC certified it as R-594var, silvered. However, I do not see it on the census report, nor do I see any others with this designation online or on ebay or similar marketplaces. The Richter book also does not list a silvered version of this one. Thanks in advance for any assistance, just trying to learn more about what I have here.

@cut, first welcome to CCF. Second, it is always best to post both sides in the thread because sometimes we need to see details from different areas to help narrow down what you have.

Third, that looks like a pretty sweet Shooting Medal you have there. I see several similar specimens on acsearch.com. Here is a sample description from a 2019 Heritage auction to help you with your research:

Quote:
Geneva. Canton silver Specimen "50th Anniversary of Geneva's Union with Confederation" 1864 SP65 PCGS, R-594b, (var. with different reverse legend). By Ant. Bovy. 47mm. 59.03gm. UN POUR TOUS TOUS POUR UN 12 SEPTEMBER 1814. National monument of Robert Dorer, inaugurated in 1869 to commemorate Geneva's accession to the Confederation in 1814, with allegorical figures of Geneva (for the République de Genève) and Helvetia (for the Swiss Confederation) / CELEBRE A GENEVE LE 12 SEPT.RE 1864. Inscription and date on four lines, all within wreath. Housed in an oversized holder.

Thx for posting those overall pics. You can really see the silvering on the reverse.

Yes it's definitely much clearer on the reverse, just curious that a silvered finish isn't listed in Richter and I haven't been able to find another example. The book says there's gilded silver, silver, and copper.

Here is a link to one, at least according to the auction description:

Update

Spence, thanks for the input and the link for some direction. I contacted NGC to ask for more information as well. They responded saying "Well, it does look like you have a very interesting collectible on your hands," and it's not in the census because it's a variation of the medal and there are few around so they don't always include them. So, still would like to learn more but I've got more than I had.
