Donald Jackson's site that he created is now no longer available online and below I am sharing Adobe PDF's of his important pages. It is my hope this information can continue to be available for future collectors. These files will be shared until May of 2022 and hopefully we can get in touch with Donald and find a new site to house these. Because this was a website each file may be a great many pages long with example of different style pieces. (The PDF files are an image of an old website not a live website, so any button in them will not link to his site anymore which was taken down.)

If it deals with ancient antiquities I would think it would be OK. I would like to see what's there first.

Very interesting, I've downloaded it and will spend some time reading it later. As far as making this a sticky, I think it would be best to post it in the Books, downloads, and website section. If you could repost the information there. It would be easier to do that than me trying to move it there.

Echizento;

OK, but I notice the title of threads after a day come right up in Google. Like search "Magnus Maximus Pick Up- Should I Start A Usurper Collection?" and you get his post as the first return. My goal is if someone searches Donald Jackson roman locks etc they come up and can be found. So hopefully you let me leave this original post alone as it will work for a search already. Now is there any place in the forum to house PDF files for reference? I used my mail account and shared these because you can post photos or a link but not a file.

Does anyone understand this image? In Donald's notes he said some kind of animal, perhaps a horse. That clay imprint photo is his from his old site I only have the seal ring. The other photos are mine. Look pretty detailed I feel I should see something obvious but not.

That is a bit of a headscratacher @lks. There are two subjects noted by Jackson, "Figure with animal, perhaps a horse".

I played around with the pic in the *.pdf, but not sure I can improve on your pic. It kinda looks like someone sitting on the floor scratching a dog's back while the dog tips his head up toward the ceiling.

Spence;

OK I see that, but thinking about the Seal the person wanted to tell the world on some document, sure he could have been a dog groomer. So in that line, maybe a Vet who delivers calves, lambs, or colts? If that is even close what an image to have someone make a seal ring for you of that.

I don't know why but I just looked at it and thought "it's someone milking a goat". I must have have seen the motif somewhere before.

Anyway, I googled "milking goat Roman intaglio", clicked on images and viola!

Similar imagery occurs on the coins.

So right away when I got married 21 years ago cleaning the garage I lost the wedding ring. So I bought a pair of matching estate rings and my wife and wore them for about 20 years as luck would have it her wedding ring she was allergic to but at least she did not lose hers. Now no matter how I look right now I can't find the ring and for now I am just going to see what wearing one of these rings is like. Plus Donald said this one had no design he could determine. Plus it is quite stable but I wonder what will happen to that patina as I wear this? This was seal ring 457.
