I have a few Solomon Islands coins but the catalogues list quite a few, some of which I have yet to prove the existence of. Does anyone have any of these in their collections? Solomon Islands coins dated 1977-1983 all exist with the FM mintmark but some of those years are meant to exist without the mintmark and those are the ones I'm interested in.

may be few and far between because as you are well aware, so few were minted.
Nevertheless and interesting topic for just that reason - so few of them were minted.
I share your interest.

Whereabouts on the coin is the FM mintmark located ... I couldn't find it on any of the coins that I have?

Agreed, and a junk box is the best place to find these coins - not ideal. Quote:

Oooh, I don't have any in front of me... but I think it's a little stylised F in the bottom right of the reverse of each denomination.

Late but I got an update from The Royal Mint when I reached out: We have reached out to our Museum colleagues to see if they can answer your enquiry. The Annual Reports you have requested do not, after 1977, contain any mintage figures at all and contain very little mention of international coinage. From 1978 onwards they move to a brief report-style booklet of 10-20 pages, quite unlike the detailed ones of the century past. So we are unable to provide you with the pages requested. What we have been able to locate from our archival data is below, although should by no means be taken as an exhaustive list of our work for the Soloman Islands in the dates specified. We thought we would send on in case of interest for you. Production Date Denom. Mintage Date on Coin 1987 10c 2,000,000 1988 1987 5c 2,000,000 1988 1989 20c 500,000 Not given No records could be located for 1978 or 1980. |

Royal Mint reports usually just state the year and the amount produced, so the 5c issued in 1989 might have all been dated 1988, but then it states "date on coin" above to confuse things?

Yeah not sure - be good to have a report in hand but The Royal Mint Museum's website only has reports up until 1976 (the year before Solomon Islands coin production started). |
