Post Pictures Of USA Sets In Original Government Packaging

For your consideration, the 2007 American Legacy Collection.

The 3rd of 4 consecutive annual issues beginning in 2005, the 2007 issue below improves upon the packaging significantly over the 2005 edition I posted yesterday. Product code: AL1. It originally sold for $135 and was limited to 50,000 sets. It contains the following 16 coins:

- 2007-S Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah Quarters (5)
- 2007-S Kennedy half dollar

The packaging is large at 11.5"H x 12.5"W x 1.5"D. It is similar in format to the 2005 edition with a bifold cover that opens to reveal the coins in slabs and capsules on a flocked mount. The descriptions and background/history of the commemoratives are on the inside of the bifold covers, which have magnetic catches to keep them closed. The packaging has a kickstand built in to display on a flat surface like a picture frame, and the COA is stored in a pocket inside the kickstand. The entire package is protected by a dust sleeve. Nice 1990 prestige too ...

I must say Celtic, that silver Teddy medal sure is pretty.

Trying to get some group pictures of my Prestige sets is much harder than I thought. Of course me not being very
good at operating my camera .. must have a lot to do with it.

Prestige sets were issued 1986 - 1997. The 1996 and 1997
seem to be the highest priced ones.

Alrighty. Let's move on to the 2013 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set, the second annual release of this product. Some folks were not pleased with this set due to the price and the quality of packaging. Product code LS2. It originally sold for $139.95 and cointains (ahem) 2.33 ounces of silver in the following 8 proof coins (unfortunately none of which are exclusive to the set):

Next we have the slip cover removed (left) and the box top also removed (top). They all look very similar.


The set, removed from its box. The top flap is hinged a the top of the set and here it's opened, showing the coins and the COA along with a little printed square telling the buyer not to send it back if there are smudges on the capsules. I have not removed the protective plastic film from the coin slab so it looks hazy.

So let's now take a look at the 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy half dollar Gold Proof Coin (K15), the first gold half-dollar ever issued by the U.S. Mint:

Among 6 other coins (in various finishes and compositions), this 2014 3/4 oz gold (.999) proof release commemorates the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy by the gunman Lee Harvey Oswald, who was later himself murdered by Jack Ruby in the basement of a Dallas courthouse.

While all Kennedy halves released this year were beautiful, this coin is the creme de la creme. The dual-dated (1964-2004) portrait of Kennedy on the coin is the same as the 1964 obverse. This coin originally had no product limit, but later a mintage maximum of 75,000 was announced and still has not sold out as of 2/25/2015.

In my opinion (if you could not already tell) this coin is spectacular and the wooden box is elegant and appropriate for such a piece. The case appears to be heavily stained solid oak. If it's veneered, it's well done.
