Was organizing this afternoon ( while watching college basketball ) and snapped a photo of my 2000 - 2010 Mint Sets : Does anyone know the origin of the Mint's tradition of representing Denver issues with Red and Philly issues with Blue ? My earliest Mint Set (1963) dates back to the "Pliofilm" cello holder and even then, they were designated with the same color scheme (and the discs ). Maybe a Mint Director coin flip ? Thanks

I mistakenly bought a set like that. Discovered my error. Bought "real" OGP for the two coins and retain them to this day. These aren't really what the topic is, but if nothing else serves as a warning to those who may see these and view them as a legitimate or otherwise a real US Mint set. The lack of a COA is your best clue.

Capt: You and I think Alike. The vibrant colors, Sweet seeing them in consecutive Order.... Well taken care of, .. The collectors of today Still could easily put together a Uncirculated or Proof set collection, In all Originally packaged , ..... ( while the varietys within the sets is are Still worth Cherry-picking ) One of my enjoyments are taking out All the Uncirculated sets, they started in 1947, mine are from 1948, from storage and simply looking at them is a Thrill for me. ( careful handling is Utmost ). I too collect Proof sets, they started in 1936, mine are from 1942, They Always have another level of joy, They are Awesome Too. I am still seeking the Full Sets from their inception, I am Trying to " catch - up " lately, The Commemoratives, ASE's, Presidential medals , Liberty medals, Morgans and Peace dollars, Reverse proof sets, Lesps's etc......( sure I left some out ). While I do Not post pictures Here, It's Sweet seeing the Sets, In All Their Glory of Days Gone Bye......

@Morgans Dad: I'm caught up on Mint Sets ( and I don't care if I ever get any of the Souvenir Sets from 1982 - 83 ). I inherited Mint, Proof, and Silver Proof sets from my father. His earliest Mint Set was 1963; earliest proof set 1953; earliest silver proof set was 1993. I've done a fair job filling the voids of all three types so I have uninterrupted runs that span my lifetime. . . Like you, I enjoy hauling parts of the collection out of the closet to look at and enjoy them. Have a fine Thanksgiving holiday. Time to watch some college hoops.

@ Capt, The Fact Your Father left them to You, Must mean He Knew you Would carry on His collections. From what I can tell, Your doing a Great Job !!! The 1982-1983 Souvenir sets are Special too, They are still available, No The Proof and Mint sets are Another way to Hold the Past in your hands, They Remind me of how things Were..... Have an Awesome Thanksgiving , May the " dinner " table discussions, Include Among other topics, Numismatics Too.... Enjoy All

This is the 1993 Philadelphia Bicentennial set I was posting about on another thread. I'm pretty happy with it, just a little toning."They say" the toning is caused by the green dye in the OGP. Oddly they packed it like this, but in 1995 they had individual capsules. Then when they started the Limited Edition set, they started with the common slab again, did that for what, 3 years?
