I was at the bank today just to get a couple random rolls. SoI asked the teller if they had half dollars. She said they don't have them but could give whatever they have in their drawers. So between 4 drawers they had a total of $2.50, 5 coins lol.

But when she gave them to me, I was pleasantly surprised to see this on the middle of my short stack!

What kind of grade or value do you guys think on it?

Although this is my coolest find so far, so probably will hold on to it for a while.

Yikes paying face value for this piece seems like a really good deal indeed. Well done!

Fantastic find. I see a genuine coin with XF range circulation wear. It definitely has a modest numismatic premium above silver melt value.

I'm so old that I can remember finding commemorative halves frequently as a kid, but back then all halves were silver.

I just rubbed a little spot with my thumb where it was blackish and a lot of it came off. So tempting to get a rag and wipe it down. But I have heard its bad to clean them. Does that mean any kind of cleaning? I definitely want to hold whatever value it has but tht black stuff wiped of pretty easy. Any advice on this. I am gonna look around the forum but if there is a specific thread on this please let me know thanks.

Soak in 100% Purity Acetone - not Nail Polish Remover. You can get some in the 95% range at a paint store or big box store.

Edit to add: look at my blog post (in my sig). Just do the Acetone phase, nothing else, and then give us an update.
