Buddy and I detected a large yard in a small college town. Over 30 wheaties dug including my poor man's VDB Lincoln. lots of wheats from the teens and twenties. Silver quarter hiding in the curb strip. Several IH's and two buffalo and a V-nickel. Buddy dug a cool old silver Oxford University ring with 1830 stamped on top. While we were there, a local dirt fisherman showed up and said, "sorry, not much left here from over the years."

Nice. I think the old class ring is pretty interesting - any chance you can post some pics of it?

Maybe they are items falling out of the pockets of hunters who came from another site! It could happen!

You need to go find him and ask him for more of these places he know won't produce!

Nice finds!

Nice finds . As far as I'm concerned there's no such thing as a detected out site . On a large old school yard there is very little chance of detectors going over every square inch of that field .

Yeah, that's kind of a running joke in the metal detecting forums. Its certainly better if they are fresh sites, but there is always something to be found even in the hammered or detected-out sites.

Yes, good sites are hard to find anymore. I really cleaned up the last 10 years, finding over 200 old silvers at popular hunting spots, not to mention all the other old coins and relics.

I do have several multi-acre sites that were very productive short term, but have not given up a single coin find in the last few years.
I truly believe these spots are hunted clean, as we've hit them with different hunters and detectors.

Nowadays, I rely on research, word of mouth and door knocking to keep things interesting.
