I brought a few $2.50 indians to a local coin dealer to offer for sale. They said they were all xf. Sent to pcgs and grades came back between ms-61 and ms-63.

Docc, I will go with that on faith. I have always gone with GC since they take care of these things. I wonder if the seller touched base with GC prior to committing to SB.

"If I recall correctly, Heritage told him to take a hike." Is this true, why would Heritage do this? I was considering consigning some items to HA and this may affect my decision.

The fact it's not in a tpg holder is a red flag for me. Had too many coins come back body bagged lately.

Rick Snow doesn't think it is obverse of 1856 variety, but may be a "hybrid" die. He didn't elaborate. I'm going to put it up for auction.

It's just a bullion coin, so no extra value due to toning, just thought I'd show the unexpected results.

I had this in a flip and it partially dislodged. Was sitting in a wooden drawer for many years and you can see how it toned on the part that was out of the flip.
