1982 Proof Quarter Blemished Mint Mark

SteveGraves New Member United States 16 Posts	Posted 02/24/2025 11:16 pm Hi everyone, I was looking at my proof set from 1982 and noticed that the S mint mark had a strange splotch on it. At first I brushed it off as tarnish but now I am wondering if it is damage that happened during minting. The placement seems odd to me. I haven't broken it out of the plastic case yet so it is difficult to get good pictures, I figured I would see if you guys think it's even worth doing. Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 5858 Posts	Posted 02/24/2025 11:39 pm Oh that looks bad (sorry to say) 1982 I'm pretty sure this was before robotic operations was used in handling and packaging the coins into the case, so most likely a mint employee allowed something to get on the coin. If the case can be opened without damaging it, I would remove and replace the quarter with another proof one (cleaning the plastic case first) Report this Post to the Staff
