Hi everyone, I was looking at my proof set from 1982 and noticed that the S mint mark had a strange splotch on it. At first I brushed it off as tarnish but now I am wondering if it is damage that happened during minting. The placement seems odd to me. I haven't broken it out of the plastic case yet so it is difficult to get good pictures, I figured I would see if you guys think it's even worth doing. Anyways here are some pictures, let me know what you guys think.

Oh that looks bad (sorry to say) 1982 I'm pretty sure this was before robotic operations was used in handling and packaging the coins into the case, so most likely a mint employee allowed something to get on the coin. If the case can be opened without damaging it, I would remove and replace the quarter with another proof one (cleaning the plastic case first)

To CCF! Looks like a corrosion spot, on the mint mark area. As stated, replace it with one that doesn't have a spot.

A spot of Corrosive material - the coin is toast - it ate into the surface.

If you want a nice clean looking sealed 1982 proof set then buy one, their not that expensive and use this set to put in 2x2 or fill in a slot in a book.
