A fairly major find came across my desk this week and I felt it was worthy of a little more promotion than just quietly putting it up on the website.
A very strong Class IV
DDO, now listed as 2000-P 25¢ VA WDDO-001, shows a strong spread to the NE on the right obverse. This class of doubling is very unusual for the single-squeeze era, but not unprecedented. A similar extreme Class IV
DDO is known on the proof Pennsylvania quarters (1999-S 25¢ Pr PA WDDO-001).
The early
State Quarters are often overlooked for the lack of known doubled dies and also for how common severe
Die Deterioration Doubling is (which makes spotting doubled dies even harder). But this find shows there maybe some really nice varieties still waiting to be discovered after 25 years of circulation.
2000-P 25¢ VA WDDO-001
